GORILLA TREKKING PERMITS
Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda requires an official permit. The permit allows visitors to participate in a guided gorilla trekking experience within the designated national park. Beyond the Big Five: Africa’s Great Waterfalls
A Big Five safari pairs naturally with some of East Africa’s most dramatic scenery, and no landmark makes that case better than Uganda’s Murchison Falls. Here the entire Nile River, already one of the world’s great rivers by the time it reaches this point, is forced through a gap barely seven meters wide before plunging 43 meters into the gorge below with tremendous force. It is the single most powerful waterfall on the Nile’s entire length, and the surrounding national park is one of Uganda’s premier Big Five destinations in its own right, home to lion, elephant, buffalo and reintroduced rhino populations at the nearby Ziwa sanctuary.
A typical Murchison Falls visit combines a game drive across the park’s savannah with a boat cruise along the Nile up to the base of the falls, passing pods of hippo, basking crocodiles and dense birdlife along the riverbanks before a short, steep hike to the top of the falls for a view down into the gorge itself. Visa Requirements
Most nationalities can apply for e-visas online ahead of travel to Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya also participate in the East Africa Tourist Visa, allowing single-entry travel across all three countries on one visa, a useful option for itineraries combining gorilla trekking with a Big Five safari across borders. DRC and Tanzania each require their own separate visa.
