3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari

This 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you to the renowned Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The safari combines Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in the Virunga Mountains. You will enjoy a scenic journey from Kigali, spend time in the gorillas’ natural habitat, and experience one of Africa’s most sought-after wildlife encounters.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your driver-guide for a short Kigali city tour. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit key attractions and learn about Rwanda’s history and culture.

After lunch, depart for Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda. The drive takes approximately two and a half hours through scenic countryside, rolling hills, and vibrant rural communities.

Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon and check in. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and a briefing by park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla trekking regulations and be assigned to a habituated gorilla family.

Begin your trek through the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Trekking time varies depending on the location of the gorilla family and can range from one to several hours.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch family members feed, groom, play, and interact while learning about their behaviour and conservation from your ranger guide.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. The afternoon is free to enjoy the lodge surroundings or participate in an optional cultural activity.

Day 3: Return to Kigali and Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before checking out. Depending on your departure schedule, you may visit a local community project or enjoy a leisurely drive through the scenic countryside.

Proceed back to Kigali, arriving in the afternoon. You will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight or dropped off at your hotel.
