Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla Tracking

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali at approximately 4:30 am for the drive to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about 2.5 hours through Rwanda’s scenic countryside, often referred to as the Land of a Thousand Hills.

Upon arrival at Kinigi Park Headquarters, you will attend a briefing conducted by experienced park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn the rules and guidelines for gorilla trekking and be assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level and preferences.

After the briefing, transfer to the starting point of your trek and begin your adventure through the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Trekking times vary depending on the location of the gorillas and can range from one to several hours.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural environment. Watch as they feed, groom, play, and interact with one another while your ranger provides fascinating insights into their behaviour and conservation.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters where you will receive a gorilla trekking certificate. Meet your driver and begin the journey back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
